"Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity."
1 Timothy 4:12

Meet the Core Team

John Glynn
aka "The Guy with the Air Horn " (Send John an email)

Hi and thanks for visiting the Core member page! A little info about myself: I am a Hoosier - born and bred for the first 6 years of my life living on a cemetary in Lafayette, IN. I then moved to Virginia (on the outskirts of Washington, D.C) with my parents and two younger brothers. Towards the end of high school I discovered that God was calling me to consider the priesthood, so after graduating I attended Holy Cross College then the University of Notre Dame (go Irish!), where I spent three years in seminary and eventually graduated with a degree in History and with a lot of experience working with Campus Ministry. My first experience with youth ministry was as an undergrad with a program called ND Vision at Notre Dame - a summer retreat offered for high school students to explore their Baptismal call. After realizing that the only thing to do with a history degree is to teach, write, or go to law school, I jumped at a chance to work full-time in campus ministry, and have been in youth and young adult ministry ever since =)

What's the coolest thing you've ever done to serve Christ?
My coolest thing was also the hardest - as a seminarian I joined a ministry to prisoners at Indiana State Prison - a maximum security facility. We would go on Sunday mornings to have Mass with the inmates and take communion to the men in the IDU (Inter-Disciplinary Unit, basically a jail within the jail) and on Death Row. Looking back i'm proud of being a part of it, but it was intense doing it!

What's the craziest thing you've ever done?
Hmmm, there's a tough one...I think it's between roadtripping one summer to New York City with my best friends in college and having a whirlwind weekend exploring the city and seeing Broadway shows (the whole trip was organized in thirty minutes the night before we left) and being the only one to dress up for a halloween party at the seminary (I swore the invite said costume party!). To answer your question before you ask - I was Batman.

What is the Core Team?

The Core Team is a group of adults who serve the Life Teen ministry. They are committed, excellent people who are willing to roll up their sleeves and dive into the sometimes messy teenage culture to lead teens closer to Christ.

The Core Team undergoes a discernment process prior to joining the team. Once on board, they meet throughout the Life Teen year organzing and planning events and Life Nights, as well as developing relational ministry with teens by going to high school foot ball games, dance recitals, band concerts, etc. In addition, St. Mary Magdalen sponsors their on-going training and formation in ministering to teens. All Core Team members must be fingerprinted by the Diocese of Orlando and FDLE cleared prior to joining the team.

For more info on how to join the Team, contact John in the Life Teen office.
