Although our main focus at this time is the Adult Day
Care, where persons with disabilities can be cared for
on a daily basis. St Mary Magdalen has an active Elder
Concerns Ministry.
Some responsibilities in this ministry:
- Establish good lines of
communication with the parish clergy, pastoral ministers
and leaders of service and social groups in parish and
community.
- To be a resource for elder
parishioners and their families.
- To promote inclusion of elder
parishioners in parish life and ministry.
- To be an advocate for the
frail and at risk elderly.
How do we do this:
- Ministry to the Sick,
ministers visit seniors that are in hospitals, nursing
homes and in homes often.
- Offer opportunities for
activities – Wednesday Seniors meet every week in the
parish Annex where they take part in activities, food
and most of all fellowship. (Do not meet during the
summer)
- Parish Bulletin has
information that might be missed by the senior. Examples
below
Pneumonia season is not over!
A new report from the Infectious
Disease Society of America has found the millions of
older adults go without the Pneumonia vaccination.
The CDC recommends everyone 65-plus be vaccinated,
although the shot does not work for every type of
pneumonia, the vaccination “represents a terrific
opportunity for prevention.
If you have received a pneumonia shot before the age of
65, check with your doctor to find out whether you need
a second shot. Information from the AARP Modern Maturity Magazine.
